In 1970, Theodor Kallifatides came out with the autobiographical novel Foreigners , which portrays some Greek immigrants in Stockholm with the young Stelios in the lead role. Director Johan Bergenstråhle stuck to the story of the Greeks’ encounter with Swedish society and decided to make a film of the novel. A chilling, breathtaking, frightening film. A great psychological drama, about a young Swedish neo-nazi, who has been beaten up by other neo-nazis and hides from them in a train. In there, he catches the attention of an older Jewish doctor, Jacob, who notices that Soren ( the neo-nazi ) is injured and invites him to come to his practice to treat him. I found it so very touching that this Jewish man, with all his horrible memories( his entire family died in Auschwitz ), offers his help to this young man, even though he undoubtably must have noticed that it is a neo-nazi, with obviously the anti-Semetic ideas of this movement.Read More »

Description:
Six juvenile delinquents are subjected to a social experiment by the authorities, who place them in a home in the inner city of Stockholm. Krister is a naive young social worker who is assigned to observe their behaviour; he believes in the goodness of man and that everybody can change their ways. The overall supervisor and mind behind the experiment is a middle-aged man refered to as the Inspector. He represents the hypocracy of the system, and is also the one who eventually goes on to rape one of the boys.

The experiment is one of observation: the boys are free to go wherever they want and whenever they want as long as they reside in the home that was appointed to them by the authorities. As the days go by, we get to follow them into a life of cheap thrills and petty crimes. But what could have been the start of a friendship between them, soon enough escalates into anarchy and meaningless cruelty.Read More »
