In his meetings with various different people, Jean-Luc Godard develops his thinking about history, politics, the cinema, images and time, and this will lead to his exhibition as an artist at the Pompidou Centre. Jean-Luc Godard’s conversations with Dominique Païni, Jean Narboni, André S. Labarthe, Jean-Marie Straub, Danielle Huillet and Christophe Kantcheff were filmed at his home in Rolle, in his study, at the Fresnoy National Studio for the Contemporary Arts (in front of students) and in the exhibition rooms of the Pompidou Centre.Read More »

Cassis collapses a full day on the Mediterranean into a dazzling five-minute sketch. Time-lapse photography revels in the endless variations of atmosphere and light, with motorboats and sailboats sweeping across the bay like wind-up toys. The sudden flare of a lighthouse marks the end of the day (and, with it, Jonas Mekas’s gorgeous film)Read More » -
Nigel Wingrove – Visions of Ecstasy (1989)
United Kingdom1981-1990ArthouseExperimentalNigel Wingrove

Synopsis
Visions of Ecstasy is a 1989 short film that became the only work to be refused a certification by the British Board of Film Classification on the grounds of blasphemy. The film, which was directed by Nigel Wingrove, was banned because it featured sexualised scenes of Saint Teresa of Ávila with the body of Jesus on the cross. It contains a fantasy scene in which the figure of St Teresa of Avila caresses the body of the crucified Christ and apparently has sex with him. The BBFC felt that any release of the film could be liable for prosecution under the common law offence of blasphemous libel.Read More » -

As such it is a pertinent message for the director’s countrymen and an eye-opening lesson for the world about the proud history and ongoing racial tensions that currently form the crux of the Australian experience.Read More »
