Bohdan Kosiński (1922-2003) was a director of documentaries, screenwriter, member of the Polish Filmmakers Association and Independent Culture Committee. In the years 1956-87 he was associated with the Documentary Film Studio in Warsaw and the Czołówka Label, after 1990 – with the Cinematography Studio. He lectured at PWSFTviT in Łódź (1975-78) and at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow (1982-88).In 1948-76 he was a member of the Polish United Workers’ Party. In the history of Polish cinema he enrolled as the author of loud social films, among others. On Track, Watch, Ethnographic Sketch, and Build the City. In the latter, the most famous of his achievements (to which Andrzej Wajda’s quote in The Man From Marble) was appealed, through the characters of the father – the builder of Nowa Huta and his son – looking for somewhere outside the “new wonderful world”, summed up the achievements of communism in Poland. . In 1998 he was awarded the “Dragon of Dragons” award at the Krakow Short Film Festival for his outstanding achievements in the field of documentary. In 2006, posthumously awarded the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
