Walter Ruttmann – Mannesmann – Ein Film der Mannesmannröhren-Werke (1937)

Mannesmann was a German industrial conglomerate. It was originally established as a manufacturer of steel pipes in 1890 under the name “Deutsch-Österreichische Mannesmannröhren-Werke AG”. (Loosely translated: “German-Austrian Mannesmann pipe mills AG”). In the twentieth century, Mannesmann’s product range grew and the company expanded into numerous sectors – starting from various steel products and trading to mechanical and electrical engineering, automotive and telecommunications. From 1955, the conglomerate’s management holding with headquarters in Düsseldorf was named Mannesmann AG. – more (on wikipedia)

The Foundation F.V. Murnau to the 100th anniversary of the film studio UFA presents a short film from its archive. From 1933 to 1945 the UFA film studio was turned into an instrument of propaganda. Various films were shot there: from institutional films to commercials – and all of them reflected the Nazi ideology in one way or another. In 1935, the management of the Mannesmannröhren-Werke AG pipe company, founded by the Max brothers and Reinhard Mannesman, suggested that UFA film studios remove an advertising film about their production for sound film. The use of innovative techniques of filming and soundtracks significantly pushed the boundaries of the possible ideological influence on the masses. It is no accident that at the Venice Film Festival the film received the prize of the Italian fascist party for the best documentary.
