AUGUST 1980: Following the unjustified dismissal of Anna Walentynowicz, an employee just months away from retirement, her colleagues at the Gdansk shipyards organized a general solidarity strike. The movement grew to unprecedented proportions and would have irreversible consequences for all of Polish society, and by extension, for the Soviet bloc.
