Alpine Fire is as heady and intoxicating as the thin mountain air of the Alps in which it takes place. The entire film is set far above the rest of the world, and the isolated location influences both the characters and the film style.

The exact location is a lonely home pitched on the side of a mountain. Communication with neighbors is done with signs and binoculars; other people may be miles away, on the slope of the next Alp. The time is the present, but the home has no television or telephone, and it seems remote in many ways.Read More »

Structured in the camera by adjusting the focus frame by frame according to a series of patterns on particular plants situated in different areas of several contiguous sunflower fields, Sunflowers tries to make the whole spatio-temporal representation gain a certain stability, while keeping the graphic elements of the image mobile. The small cluster of frames, filmed one after the other, overlap each other on the screen to form various configurations. Filmed near Bedarrides, Vaucluse.Read More »

With the vivid memory of his long-gone childhood friends Max, Patsy, and Cockeye etched in his mind, his ferociously loyal partners-in-crime during their rise to prominence in New York’s Prohibition-era Lower East Side, the defeated, penniless, and guilt-ridden former gangster David “Noodles” Aaronson returns to Manhattan. Not knowing what to expect on his mission to shed light on his opaque past, grizzled Noodles reunites with his only living friend Fat Moe after 35 haunted years of self-exile. Jesus Der Film (1986)

    Synopsis
JESUS – THE FILM is a monumental feature film in 35 episodes, shot on Super8. The individual episodes retell the story of the New Testament and were made by a total of 22 filmmakers from East and West Germany in 12 months. The project’s own history follows the story of Jesus Christ recruiting his apostles. The film’s creator Michael Brynntrup is a central and controversial figure of Berlin’s vivid independent community. His transgressive obsessions, as well as his capability to smuggle miles of Russian Super8 film-material through East-West customs, gathered a group of believers around him. Individuals and groups from various art factions filled the holy frame, inspired by the Dadaistic idea of an ‘ecriture automatic’. From one to another, they passed ideas, material and actors, including Michael Brynntrup himself as the title character. (IMDB)Read More »
