Maria Conchita Alonso at her very Best

This movie would have got nowhere without Maria Conchita Alonso’s performance, the powerful plot and shocking end is really a work of art. It is commented that Maria Conchita Alonso wanted to buy the rights for the movie but the rights owner didn’t want to. Whatever happened this movie has not been released in English language, and a great performance from Maria Conchita, can’t be seen yet. The movie shows the ordeals that some people from Colombia went thru, to get to stay in Venezuela, Maria Conchita plays a high society woman obsessed with her lover. The movie shows a very rare often edited scene, where Maria Conchita Alonso gets raped in a Ladies bathroom. Dark very powerful, raw and controversial, this is one of Maria Conchita Alonso’s greatest performances, a must see.

  1. Many thanks to whomever added the English subs (in the rar file).

This brings up something I have been thinking. I think I read somewhere that a subtitle file in an .mkv file can be extracted to an .srt file. If this is so, even if the sub file is in another language, once in a .srt file it is easy to translate. I would be happy to translate .srt files in a number of European languages. In fact, Chat GPT is quite competent in translating (much better than Google, Bing or even DeepL). An .srt file is simply a text file that can be edited by a text editor. The advantage is that it already formatted to sync to the video it comes from. Just a thought if someone could do the extraction. (I have tried but failed several times.)

A second thougt is: Thanks for adding a list of re-upped movies. This is very useful. Would it be possible to make a similar list for films that have subtitles added later? This would be quite helpful for similar reasons.

Many thanks for all this and for compiling the best list of films on the internet.

    1. YOU: “a subtitle file in an .mkv file can be extracted to an .srt file”

You can do it with the open source programs “MKVToolNix” and “Subtitle Edit”.
      1. Make a copy of the .mkv file.
      2. Edit the copy with MKVToolNix, unselecting everything but one subtitle track, and hitting “Start Multiplexing”. This extracts the subs but in a .mks file.
      3. Open the .mks file with Subtitle Edit and save as an .srt file.

  2. The Spanish subs turned out to be not of the problem variety. Always had a high regard for Maria Conchita Alonso, so this (generating EN subs) was a pleasure, and not a chore. Please check your email. If they did not prove satisfactory for some reason, I could try an alternate method.

  3. Are the Spanish subs here Soft (optional) or Hard (burned in / embedded) ? May have to download this to find out. If the former, EN srt should be very doable, and probably forthcoming. Something I’d be very willing to do. But if the latter case, the Spanish hard subs would first need to be matted out, to allow for positioning and layering over of any EN srt. Otherwise, you end up with a distracting and unreadable mess ! Unfortunately, that extent of work is presently well outside of anything I could do.
