Douglas Wolfsperger – Bellaria – So lange wir leben! (2002)

“Documentary feature about the traditional Viennese cinema “Bellaria”, which is specialized in German cinema from the 20s, 30s and 40s and its regular customers, whose idols are stars like Zarah Leander or Karl Schönböck. They’re visiting regularly, some of them even daily, to see the movies of their youth.”

Quote:
You have to see this one by yourself before you judge it. I saw it as a preview at a Dresden cinema and it strangely reminded me on the movies of the early Helge Schneider, especially dialogue and quality wise. Though there is no real plot, you can enjoy yourself for a couple of funny hours. Don’t forget the beer and some pretzels. (imdb)

  1. Thanks so much! Etwas skurril aber wehmütig, der letzte Protagonist dürfte inzwischen auch verstorben sein.

The cinema shut down unfortunately but I read that there’s a group of cineastes who banded & founded a non-profit org with the goal to open a similar cinema but with a more diverse program.
