Thierry de Peretti’s second feature focuses on the violent nationalist struggle that wracked his native island, Corsica throughout the 1990s. In this climate, Stéphane goes to Paris, fleeing from his past in those conflicts. The death of a former comrade brings back memories of how in the ‘90s he went from being a middle class youth with aspirations to becoming radicalized and turning his life into a constant persecution. He has to decide whether to go to the funeral or not, a dilemma that could cost him his life.
Between Gomorra and The Godfather, A VIOLENT LIFE is a chilling portrait of a young man’s rise and fall— caught between militant groups wars, resulting in dozens of deaths and a major police crackdown and set in the very unique social and cultural climate of Corsica — a land that has one foot stuck in Italy, another in France, and a heart deeply embedded in its own folkloric history.

While thousands of tourists invade the beaches and clubs of the picturesque island of Corsica, five local teenagers spend their days aimlessly hanging out in the streets. One summer night, one invites the others to a vacant luxury villa he knows, where they spend the night swimming, drinking and hooking up. When they leave, they steal several valuables from the home, including two prize rifles. Upon returning from Paris to discover the theft and vandalism, the homeowner turns to a local crime boss for help, quickly igniting a chain reaction of violence and revenge the teens had never anticipated.
