Plot
20 years old Casanova Jan falls in love with the 3 years younger Turkish girl Yasemin, who lives in Germany with her family. She’s well protected by her father, who believes in the Turkish traditions. She has to struggle for every little freedom that’s certain for her German friends, but still respects and loves her father and keeps the appearance of an honorable Turkish girl. Her love to Jan however disturbs this fine balance. So it’s not hate or quarrel that interferes with their love, but the differences of their cultures.

Hasmet, director of love stories, wants to make a film with a “social content”. He makes a deal with the producer Abdulkadir, yet the actress Mujde Ar doesn’t accept the leading role, as Hasmet expected. Hasmet gives the role to Jeyan. He starts to shoot with a very limited budget. In the meantime the producer Abdulkadir cheats everyone and runs away. Jeyan fancies Tarcan, who is the leading actor, but Hasmet himself is interested in Jeyan. He first fires both of the out of jealousy, but rehires them out of necessity. With great difficulties, he finally finishes the film. However, nobody appears in the gala and the crew does not like the movie at all. Muhsin Bey is frequently quoted as being a turning point in Turkish cinema. With some notable exceptions, much of Turkey’s movie production up to Muhsin Bey consisted of cheap tear-jerkers, juvenile comedy and remakes of popular foreign movies. While many of these movies still have appeal for Turkish audiences today, it is mainly for nostalgic reasons. Muhsin Bey, in contrast, is an original movie with both comedic and dramatic elements, dealing with social change in a way that is both universal and specific to Turkey.

Muhsin Bey (“Mr. Muhsin”) is a music producer/manager in Istanbul in the 70s. At the end of his career, not having “discovered” any talent recently, his finances and credibility are suffering. Using last favors from his many friends in the industry, he sets up a singing competition, promising the winner a contract. Among many applicants is one Ali Nazik, an immigrant to Istanbul from South-eastern Turkey with a wonderful voice. The movie goes on to tell the story of Muhsin Bey and Ali Nazik as they try to make a star out of Ali Nazik, while drawing attention to the change in values and culture of Istanbul as a result of the very large immigration from eastern Turkey.

It would be unfair to call Sinan Çetin just a filmmaker, despite the broadness of the term. He has remained a hovering presence over Turkey’s pop culture for two decades whether he makes movies or, as is generally the case, does not. Çetin is a persona who is much larger than the sum of his parts.

It’s a rule of thumb that nearly all popular figures generate their unique brand of devoted fans and followers, along with haters of a similar fervor. With Çetin, the number of fans and followers has diminished and are arrayed against an impressive number of detractors that include other filmmakers, movie critics and viewers.

The director, however, has chosen to show the finger to anyone who deigns to tarnish his work and his persona and has managed to maintain his position in Turkey’s culture scene and his currency among the artistic elite.

Çetin is a director, producer, writer, actor, publisher, commercial powerhouse, movie mogul and a real estate mogul. His directorial debut, “Bir Günün Hikayesi” (Story of A Day), goes back to 1980, when he wowed critics and audience as a promising newcomer.

His subsequent films “Çirkinler de Sever” (Ugly But In Love) (1981) and “Çiçek Abbas” (Abbas in Flower) (1982), received positive reviews as well. Interestingly, the early 1980s is a period Çetin doesn’t much care to remember yet alone be proud of.

For many, his magnum opus was “Berlin in Berlin” of 1993 when he steered his camera toward Turkish immigrants in Germany, including the groundbreaking masturbation scene of its award-winning leading actress, Hülya Avşar.

Since then he has directed, produced and wrote the occasional blockbuster, as well as the flop. Çetin is now more associated with the hundreds of expensive, extravagant and award-winning commercials he directs and produces. He is also rumored to own half of Istanbul’s Cihangir neighborhood, where his production company Plato Film and film school Plato Okul are located.

Cicek Abbas, very nice window to 70′ Turkey where immigration from rural areas to big cities boosted and new suburbs getting created.

Sakir (played by Sener Sen) is the driver and the owner of the bus, he’s rude and senseless guy while Abbas (played by Ilyas Salman) is Sakir’s helper in the bus and he’s dreaming to get his own bus one day.

Abbas also represents the people who came to city in hope to save some money and return back to village, get married to girl he loves and start a better life. Most of them never returned though. Instead they turned the city into a big village.

Many scenes of this movie has a place in people’s minds and hearts. This couple (Sakir and Abbas) argue each other all the time but both are very funny, every thing they say crafted well and makes you smile.
