Storyline:
It’s 1873, Indian Territory. Talbot Roe is going mad with grief over losing his Indian wife, Awbonnie. In an effort to save him, his father, Prescott Roe, seeks to purchase the dead wife’s sister, Velada, from the same traveling carnival he acquired Awbonnie. The girls’ father, carnival master Eamon McCree, is willing to do business, but her step-brother, Reeves, protests, putting an end to the negotiation. Desperate, Prescott kidnaps Velada and promises her the means to be rid of her father in return for comforting Talbot out of his obsession. In Talbot’s madness, he guards his wife’s corpse, preventing her from passing to the beyond. As a result, Awbonnie’s ghost begins haunting and cursing everyone involved in the transaction of selling her as a wife. Meanwhile, Reeves and Eamon search the prairie for Velada…

Synopsis

Indovina’s Latin Lover chronicles a professional woman’s experience with a male escort, hired by her business to keep her company on her travels to Rome. Plot
Richard Harris and Robert Duvall star in this low-key drama concerning a hard-drinking former sea captain (Richard Harris) who befriends a shy retired barber (Robert Duvall). Though their polar-opposite personalities find the relationship slow going at first, roguish Frank (Harris) and gentle Walter (Duvall) soon develop a close friendship as they pass the days with conversation. As death looms near and their pasts seem to evaporate into the air with the passing of each day, the lonely souls find comfort in each other’s company until their fragile friendship is shattered. When Frank insults a waitress (Sandra Bullock) with whom Walter harbors a protective friendship, Walter makes the decision to cut his ties with loutish Frank. Forced to reevaluate their friendship, the two lonely souls attempt to find meaning in their lives as their chances for connecting with the outside world grows ever more dim.

“The Night Fighters” is listed on IMDB under “A Terrible Beauty”, a deceiving title for a movie that has nothing to do with beauty. Considering it had been directed by the great Tay Garnett, and with a cast that included Robert Mitchum, Richard Harris, Ann Heywood, Cyril Cusak, and Dan O’Herlihy, among others, the early promise seemed to evaporate as we watched it.

It is not a horrible movie by any means. The story about the organization of an IRA faction in Northern Ireland is at the center of the story. Evidently the adaptation of the novel in which this book is based by R. Wright Campbell doesn’t make much sense. To make matters worse, the ending leaves the viewer even more confused. It appears the screen play must have had many changes and the finished version doesn’t shed new light on the subject matter.

The best thing in the film are Robert Mitchum and Richard Harris who seemed to have been having a great time with one another as it is evident in the film.
