Synopsis:
The Cotton Club was a famous Harlem nightclub. This is the story of the people who visited this club as well as the people who ran it, and the film is generously peppered with the jazz music that made the Cotton Club so renowned in the 1920s and 1930s.

John Klein is involved in a car accident with his wife, but while he is unharmed, his wife mentions a moth shaped creature appearing. After her death, John begins to investigate the secrets behind this mentioned Mothman. It takes him to a small town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where he discovers a connection with the same problem. Here he meets Connie Mills, whilst he continues to unravel the mystery of what the Mothman really is.

synopsis
Theresa (Diane Keaton) is a dedicated school-teacher of deaf children during the day. Once she moves out of her parents’ place, she chooses to spend her evenings seeing adult films, cruising bars, and looking for abusive men with whom she can engage in ever more violent sexual encounters. She furthers her self-destruction by a rather aimless intake of drugs and alcohol, leading to both demeaning and dangerous situations, completely at odds with her daytime commitments. In need of a father figure, she makes herself available to numerous men and eventually pays a price for her hedonistic behaviour.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Judith Rossner, the sexual themes sparked a public controversy when the film was first released, and the film contains one of the most memorable endings in cinema history. This cast includes Diane Keaton, Tuesday Weld, Richard Gere, Tom Berenger and William Atherton. (And yes, that is Brian Dennehy – making his screen debut – about to kiss Diane Keaton’s nipple in the screenshot below.)

trivia
– Mike Nichols, Sydney Pollack and Roman Polanski all turned down the opportunity to direct the film.
– screen debut of Brian Dennehy (and also introducing for the first time in major roles Richard Gere, Tom Berenger and LeVar Burton).
– Diane Keaton won Best Actress Oscar for the other film she starred in this year (“Annie Hall”).
– The events in the book and the film were inspired by the brutal real-life murder in 1973 of 27-yr-old New York City schoolteacher Roseann Quinn.
– The film has never been released on DVD, and is not available on the home video market (probably due to music licensing, and the fact that Donna Summer’s estate (once she caught Christianity) won’t allow her songs to be used in this film anymore). It did have a VHS and LD release, and these are now collectors’ items.

One of the movie’s main subject is building some kind of bridge between two generations(a bridge over troubled water,because the adults are rather unsympathetic characters).Kurosawa’s granny is universal,she ‘s the embodiment of suffering,forgiveness and wisdom.”Blame it on the war” she keeps on repeating during the whole movie.And her hard-earned peace of mind ,she tries to communicate it to her four grandsons.She does want to see his brother ,now dying,who emigrated to Hawai and made his fortune in pineapples, a long time ago,and his family.The children’s fathers are mean little bourgeois,only interested in these American relatives’ dough and luxury mansion with pools,the mothers hateful silly geese.None of them can understand the grandmother any more.

So if there’s some hope to be found,it can only lie in the relationship old/young,skipping a whole generation,with the exception of minor Richard Gere character.The four children and their granny sitting under a blue moonlight when the adults are talking social promotion and money is beautifully filmed.But it will not delude for long.The last pictures are a real metaphor:sure the road to follow for the youngsters is the grandmother’s one,which does not forget the past ,but it’s a rocky road,edged with chasms .

Plot Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Older brother Chubby (Paul Sorvino) is a combative, booze-swilling, rough-edged construction worker, following in the footsteps of his brother Tommy (Tony Lo Bianco). Macho in the extreme, these fellows have no time for the sensitive moral quandaries which are at the heart of the two younger brothers’ lives. Stony (Richard Gere), has worked with his father in the construction business, but longs to work with children. Albert (Michael Hershewe), the youngest, is a sensitive lad, the butt of his father and oldest brother’s rough manner, and is constantly being harassed by his stressed-out mother (Lelia Goldoni). After a few attempts to communicate with his insensitive older brother and his parents, Stony must decide for himself if the rejection he will experience from his family on leaving the construction business is worth it; and if it is, what can be done to protect his younger brother from the rest of the family?

Synopsis:
John Schlesinger directs the war romance Yanks, based on the story by Colin Welland. Set in England at the end of WWII, the story concerns three American GIs and their affairs with British women of varying social status. The central romance concerns Sgt. Matt Dyson (Richard Gere) and Jean Moreton (Lisa Eichhorn making her film debut), who is the daughter of shopkeepers (Rachel Roberts and Tony Melody). He falls in love with her but she is still infatuated with her boyfriend Ken (Derek Thompson). Higher up on the class scale, the officer John (William Devane) has a brief extramarital affair with socialite Helen (Vanessa Redgrave). The third pairing involves Sgt. Danny Ruffelo (Chick Vennera) in a fling with Mollie (Wendy Morgan). Eventually, the Americans and the Britains find themselves surrounded by racism at a New Year’s Eve dance. Annie Ross from the vocal jazz group Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross appears briefly as a Red Cross nurse.
