De fordomda kvinnornas dans was shown out of competition at the 1976 Prix d’Italia contest. It reportedly had an enthusiastic reception. When shown on Swedish television, it was televised twice in the same program spot with a commentary between the two showings. Bergman’s idea was to let the viewers assess the dance play first without the commentary, then see it a second time in a kind of silent dialogue with the commentator.”
