AMG Synopsis:
William Wyler’s Wuthering Heights is one of the earliest screen adaptations of the classic Emily Brontë novel. A traveler named Lockwood (Miles Mander) is caught in the snow and stays at the estate of Wuthering Heights, where the housekeeper, Ellen Dean (Flora Robson), sits down to tell him the story in flashback.

In the early 19th century, the original owner of Wuthering Heights, Mr. Earnshaw (Leo G. Carroll), brings home an orphan from Liverpool named Heathcliff (Rex Downing). Though son Hindley Earnshaw despises the boy, daughter Catherine develops a close kinship with Heathcliff that blossoms into love. When Mr. Earnshaw dies, Cathy and Heathcliff grow up together on the Moors and seem destined for happiness, even though Hindley forces Heathcliff to work as a stable boy.

When Cathy (Merle Oberon) meets wealthy neighbor Edgar Linton (David Niven), Heathcliff (Laurence Olivier) gets jealous and leaves. Cathy marries Edgar, and Heathcliff returns with his own wealth and sophistication. He buys Wuthering Heights from the alcoholic Hindley (Hugh Williams) and marries Edgar’s sister, Isabella Linton (Geraldine Fitzgerald), out of spite. Still obsessively in love with each other, Cathy gets deathly ill while Heathcliff grows into a bitter old man. Ellen continues telling Lockwood the story as Dr. Kenneth (Donald Crisp) enters and reveals the fateful ending.

Were women ever inferior to men? The Divorce of Lady X insists that females possess superior intellect to compensate for any lack of physical strength when dealing with the larger, if not the smarter, of the species. Five characters, including two couples, find themselves star-crossed, racing ’round London to set marriage right in this romantic comedy. Who could be more heart-pounding than a young Olivier, his career flying out the window as he pursues a judge’s grand-daughter? The judge, of course, identifies with the hero, who makes as much of a buffoon of himself as the girl’s grandfather probably once did. Laughter abounds in this film to such an extent that even the music sounds funny.
As a barrister convinced he is the cause of his new sweetheart’s imminent divorce, Olivier stalls and stammers. His voice cracks. His knack for pratfalls, wild gestures, and sudden inspirations will stun anyone only familiar with the theatrical giant who made history with his performances of Hamlet and Othello. Yet the imaginative freedom remains consistent. Olivier does whatever his character requires as naturally as if his reputation rested solely on comedy. His genius shines in moments of shy embarrassment, enraptured infatuation, and smug overconfidence. How can such an educated professional be so completely wrong in judging the opposite sex?
The film, originally released in 1938, also reveals Merle Oberon at her best. Insinuating herself into Olivier’s bedroom, bed, and even his morning eggs, she still manages to retain the glow of innocence. How can one young woman exercise so much power over a man accustomed to facing down the worst and best of English society in the court room? The answer may be talent; it may be love, or it just may be an inherent ability in the female sex to relish wit, disguise, and intrigue. This movie returns its audience to the favorite schemes of Shakespeare: missed clues, mistaken identities, and the human character turned completely upside down.
Only the story’s original author, Gilbert Wakefield, could conceive of a work that promises divorce but celebrates marriage. And only Ralph Richardson, playing the story’s battered cuckold, could recommend matrimony convincingly to his lawyer — the co-defendant in a case which does not exist. There is only one way to appreciate this plot: Enjoy the film — and laugh yourself happy! Meanwhile, relish the dazzling scenes from a past when parties took place at castles and people actually dressed like movie stars.

A Song to Remember is a 1945 Columbia Pictures biographical film which tells a ficitonalised life story of pianist and composer Frédéric Chopin.
The film starred Paul Muni, Merle Oberon, Cornel Wilde, Stephen Bekassy and Nina Foch.

Review from IMDb:
“A Song to Remember” is supposed to be the life of Chopin but in fact, very little in it is historically accurate. It’s still a beautiful, emotional, and sumptuous movie, filled with the heavenly music of Chopin played by Jose Iturbi.
“A Song to Remember” helped to popularize Chopin’s romantic, passionate music and launched Cornel Wilde’s star into the heavens. Though he’s never done much for me personally, he cuts a dashing figure as Chopin.

Quote:
The Chopin of Columbia Pictures is a strong patriot of Poland who, under the influence of the controlling George Sand, becomes a self-involved artist. Sand believed (here anyway) that the artist needed to serve himself alone and not others. Thus, she cut him off from his teacher and friend, Professor Elsnore, who wants Chopin to finish his magnificent Polonaise, a freedom cry for his beloved Poland, which is being suppressed by the Russians. Under Sand’s control, Chopin turns out little ditties instead.
There really was a Professor Elsnore, but he did not teach Chopin piano, rather, music theory and composition. The role is played effectively by Paul Muni, who works to protect the change in Chopin’s personality and apathy toward politics to his family and friends. Merle Oberon is stunning as a cold George Sand. Nina Foch plays Chopin’s Polish girlfriend Constantia (and in reality, Constantia did exist).

Well, what is true and what isn’t? Chopin was a child prodigy, he did meet George Sand at a party which was also attended by Franz Liszt, the bad weather in Mallorca nearly killed him, and in fact, after that time, he was never fully healthy again. He broke with George Sand two years before he died. She is the one who tried to get back together. His burial isn’t covered in the film, but Chopin is buried in Paris. At his request, his heart was removed and buried in Poland.

Quote:
One of the scenes in “A Song to Remember” has a place in history, though not perhaps in Chopin’s, but that of another famous pianist. During a party, it is announced that Franz Liszt will play. The room is plunged into darkness. As the audience listens, George Sand walks over to the piano and places a candleabra on top of it to reveal that it is not Liszt at all, but Chopin. It is said that because of that scene, Liberace never played piano without his own famous candelabra.
