Plot:
Infirm Thomas Felton (Leslie Daniels) tells his young wife Samantha (Rosalba Neri) that
he wants his nephew Johnny Yuma (Mark Damon) to run their ranch. Samantha responds by having her brother Pedro (Louis Vanner/Luigi Vannucchi) bump Felton off. She then blames a fall-guy for Felton’s death and employs her ex-lover-cum-bounty killer, Lawrence Jerome Carradine (Lawrence Dobkin), to shoot the patsy down. When it transpires that Felton has actually willed the ranch to his nephew, Samantha instructs both Carradine and Pedro and his men to eliminate Johnny.

An itinerant preacher and his wife and daughter rescue a Mexican boy who is the sole survivor of a massacre perpetrated by southern slaveowner. The boy grows up into Lou Castel as the daughter who becomes Barbara Frey, who’s like a sister to him now, wanders off into the moral morass of this film’s depiction of the west to become somewhat like a sex slave in one of the tawdriest saloons ever put on screen. Into this depravity wanders Castel in search of the daughter, his sister, and which leads him to Mark Damon, the evil southerner, who basically owns a town and employs a small army of enforcers, one of whom is a blond Franco Citti who kind of resembles Klaus Kinski. It just gets more twisted as it progresses, with a mesmerizing “drink and shoot” contest between Castel and Damon. It’s the twisted Damon’s idea. This guy has to be seen. He looks like Deracula himself. Riz Ortolani provided a minimal score, a lot of which is single notes on an acoustic guitar with some rhythmic accompaniment, that goes well with everything, especially the bleak desert-like physical environmnet. It’s got everything, racism, sexism, spirituality, some truly imaginative use of guns, and a thread that holds it together.

A woman is strangled in the bath by a black-gloved killer who disposes of her body in a large trunk. The trunk is delivered to St. Hilda College, an exclusive finishing school. Betty-Anne, one of the female students, is strangled in the school cellar. The police, led by Inspector Durand, are called in to investigate. Suspects include La Floret, the voyeuristic gardener; Di Brazzi, the new swimming instructor; Mrs. Clay, the summer school French mistress; an old professor who collects birds; and a philandering young teacher called Richard. The murders continue but Jill, a keen amateur detective, helps the police identify the unlikely killer…

Every good Spaghetti Western begins with a killing, a man bids his wife and baby goodbye and rides off, his wife’s smiling face turns hard and she signals a rifleman in the hills with a mirror, the man dies.

Years later, two opportunistic bounty killers Fred (Anthony Steffen) and Johnny (Mark Damon) arrive in Blackstone to try and swindle the Sheriff (Piero Lulli) out of a $15,000 bounty by posing as the captor and killer. However they are are drawn into a bloody mystery. Who is responsible for the massacre of rancher’s families? Why do the distinctive pistols Fred carries cause such consternation? The answer to events in the present can only be found in the past.

Very enjoyable Spaghetti Western with more complex plotting than usual. Good score by Marcello Giombini.

Synopsis:
The Duke Lionello Shandwell is delighted that his sister Barbara has returned home, after being away for a year in Venice, to his lonely ancestral castle in the Roman countryside. His happiness is disrupted when she reveals that she has since gotten married to Giordano. Although he doesn’t fully show it around others, Lionello is deeply disturbed by his sister’s new union, and it’s not in a protective big brother sort of way. While his sister and brother-in-law stay with him, Lionello sometimes retreats into a tormented, depraved, and jealous state, spying on them making love, harboring repressed aggression towards Giordano. Barbara is a red head, and meanwhile a giallo-esque killer is going around killing red heads. Could it be Lionello venting his aggressions over his unrequited love for Barbara, or is it something more demonic?

Synopsis:
