SYNOPSIS
In those days … The legend of milk in the dark house. Interior time. Almost silence. Light. The natural timeless exterior house. Winter. (Three generations: a grandmother, a scientist son who lives in town and on vacation in the village, two children – grandson and granddaughter. Harmonia only broken by the death of Ana ..).

SOME REMARKS
Using excerpts of poems by Rainer Maria Rilke and other texts by Antonio Reis and Margarida Cordeiro, “Ana”, like “Trás-os-Montes” deeply impressed international critics and received the Golden Spike on the Great Prize Film Festival of Valladolid in 1982, and a Special Mention in the International Festival of Figueira da Foz, in 1982. Also participated, among others, at festivals in Venice, Berlin, Rotterdam, Hong Kong, Montreal, Chicago, Brussels, Hamburg, Los Angels, São Paulo, Manheim, Edinburgh, Lausanne, Geneva, La Rochelle, Locarno (movie of the year, 1983) and Rimini (best films of Europe, 1985). It was selected for the Awards René Clair (1983) and David di Donatello (1983). It also joined the program the week of Cahiers du Cinema (1983).
In 1985 it received the Se7e Awards for Best Direction, Best Cinematography – Acacio de Almeida and Elso Roque, Actress and Revelation – Ana Maria Martins Guerra (in real life mother of Margaret Cook). In 1985, also received the Award for Best New People Director, Actress Revelation – Ana Maria Martins Guerra and Revelation Actor – Manuel Ramalho Eanes.
Debuted commercially in Portugal, the Peaks Forum, 6 May 1985. This premiere was surrounded by controversy: the Commission for Quality Film, an organization created in 1981 to give the domestic and international films of the words “film quality”, refused by the majority distinguish “Ana” with such reference, generating an petition with many people of Portuguese culture. In Paris it was on display for three months and was also distributed commercially in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium.
