Plot:
An oddball science teacher, Makoto Kito, decides to risk life and limb to steal plutonium from an atomic power plant in order to undergo the hazardous task of building his own home-made atomic bomb. He simultaneously builds a dummy bomb to send to the authorities, who know the plutonium is missing, to prove he means business. Calling himself “Number Nine”, Kito’s first demand: Don’t preempt his baseball game!
After that, he’s stumped as to what else he wants to demand from the government, so he contacts Zero, a radio personality, and tells her his situation on the air. She gets her listeners to call in to suggest demands. Kito’s second demand: a Rolling Stones concert in Japan!
When he gets greedy and asks for money, things start to get hairy, as he begins to get personally involved with Zero, and Yamashita, the policeman heading up the investigation (who knows Kito from his assistance in a school bus hijacking) gets closer and closer to capturing his prey.

Synopsis:
Shinjiro is the owner of a struggling small factory desperately in need of fresh capital to stay afloat. Hoping to secure a crucial bank loan, he deposits all his life savings at a bank — but at that very moment a robbery takes place. In a misguided attempt to stop the thief from escaping with all the money, Shinjiro helps by gathering up the remaining cash. Despite his intentions, the robber still makes off with Shinjiro’s savings, and Shinjiro impulsively follows him, trying to change his mind. Unfortunately, onlookers assume Shinjiro is an accomplice to the crime, and he suddenly finds himself on the run alongside the thief in a case of tragic misunderstanding.

Yumeji is the final film in youth-gone-berserk auteur Seijun Suzuki’s acclaimed Taisho Trilogy. Sensual and absurdist, it spins a ghost story around the character and work of real-life painter and poet Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934). The eponymous character — conjured by Suzuki as a chronic philanderer and dreamer played by former rock star Kenji Sawada — is plagued with ideals of perfect beauty and the terror of his own demise. He falls in love with women, but can never capture their hearts. He is constantly escaping his rivals, but can never face them down.

As the film opens, Yumeji is on a scenic trip to Kanazawa, where he plans to meet Hikono (Masumi Miyazaki), his lover. Instead, he falls for Tomoyo, a recent widow whose husband, Wakiya (Yoshio Harada), was slain by the murderously jealous Onimatsu. Complications ensue when Wakiya returns from the dead; Onimatsu is understandably distraught. Yumeji is not deterred, however, setting out to seduce Tomoyo while avoiding the rages of Wakiya and Onimatsu, as well as a phalanx of ghosts, apparitions, and nightmares.
