Plot Summary
Desiderium lyrically charts the hapless loves of three brothers: Majid, they young handicapped brother with a deformed head falls in love with Aghdas, a prostitute hired by his eldest brother Habib to entertain him, not knowing the truth about her profession. Karim, the middle brother is so infatuated with a quail that he almost completely ignores his wife and her emotions. Habib himself is in love with Foroogh, a tailor lady who lives with them, while his sense of responsibility about Majid keeps him from requiting her affections.

Overview
Sooteh-Delan AKA Desiderium (an ardent desire or longing, especially a feeling of loss or grief for something lost) was made in 1978 by director Ali Hatami. Though he failed to break out into the international circuit, Hatami is considered an important Iranian director and this film in particular found popular success domestically. It was rated the #4 Iranian film in Film magazine’s 2009 poll of 92 Iranian critics. The film stars Behrouz Vossoughi, one Iran’s most beloved actors.

Amir has always wished to travel to Abadan and now in his elderly days he wants to materialise his wish, but before doing so he needs to return a package to a friend. In this process he goes missing. Marjan, a middle-aged, middle-class Tehran resident and Amir’s daughter, is distraught when her father goes missing. She goes to see her estranged husband, Aman, who reluctantly agrees to look for Amir, while Marjan watches over Aman’s house, which is being renovated. Aman enlists the aid of his old friend, Atta, and the two drive off in search of Amir, who presumably took off to find an old friend whom he seems to have forgotten died years earlier.
