Eleven moving dates, eight friends: Philipp, Wiebke, Jessica, Maria, Swantje, Michael, Thomas, Dina – all in their twenties and mutually lonesome. And always searching: For a new city, a new job, an own apartment, a new, or even an old love. The search is never-ending, and so they repeatedly find themselves at a ritual gathering: someone moving. Boxes are shifted from one side of Berlin to the other, or the length and breadth of Germany, from one abode to the next as one life is exchanged for another. In 3 ZIMMER/KÜCHE/BAD, director Dietrich Brüggemann portrays existences in which relationships, social networks and backdrops are in a constant state of flux; where best friends are the only, and therefore the most valuable constant. Humorous sketches of the self-conception of a generation for whom moving has become the symbol of a life on the go.

A big hospital on the outskirts of a small city in the middle of the Thuringian Forest. Here Johannes carries out his alternative national service. The head physician, a family friend, has recruited him. Johannes gets to know Ana. During the night of their first embrace, a sex offender escapes from the hospital. His flight and the police’s hectic search accompany the story of Johannes and Ana – a love story transcending boundaries, without a future.

Director’s Statement
The lovers in this story don’t care what goes on around them. Or that their town is in a state of emergency with a manhunt for a sex murderer. They don’t care how much money is in the lottery jackpot or how high the growth deficit is. They are separate, in a bubble. It all goes well for a few days. Then the ghosts of the past come. The story of Undine was the source: a man is rejected by the woman he desires, goes to a lake in the woods, and calls Undine’s name. The call is binding. Undine rises from the water. She wants to love and be loved, completely, uncompromisingly. One day the man flees this love and returns to the first woman. For this, he will die. Undine will kill him. Our Undine is named Ana. She comes from Sarajevo and landed in Dreileben, Thuringia as a refugee. She can’t kill. She can’t even fight anymore. That is her tragedy. (-festivalscope.com)
