The setting is postwar Japan in this standard melodrama from director Yoshishige Yoshida. Shinko (Mariko Okada) is a young teen living in Akitsu when she meets Shusaku (Hiroyuki Nagato). He is a student who comes to Akitsu just before the end of the war to try to regain his health, and Shinko helps take care of him. The couple fall in love, but when they both hear that Japan has surrendered, they attempt suicide together and fail. The two lovers separate as Shusaku leaves town in the aftermath of their failed attempt, then fate tragically intervenes nearly two decades later.

Synopsis:
In post-war Japan, people are working hard, but never so much more than the Yakuza. In the city of Yokosuka, Kinta and his lover Haruko brave the post-occupation period with a goal to be together… too bad her family has agreed to sell her to the highest bidding Yank in Japan.
While Kinta deals with his relationship with Haruko, his Yakuza clan is faced with a serious problem. As the gang shells out more and more money, Sakiyama begins to move his alliances..and so do the members of the gang.

Synopsis:

Sentaro, a school student son of a neighbour sympathizes with lonely old Denzo. One day during summer vacation Denzo takes Sentaro to a stream to catch fish. The day they must leave the village is approaching. Sentaro asks Denzo to take him rather far up the stream. While fishing, Denzo suffers a heart attack and died before his son and neighbours can take him home.
