Plot:
Tony Curtis stars as Johnny Dark, a moody automobile designer. Rejected by a major auto firm because of his “radical” notions, Johnny sets out to prove the efficiency of his cars on the racetrack. He is aided and abetted by pretty Piper Laurie and less pretty Paul Kelly, while motor mogul Sidney Blackmer fumes and fusses until he realizes that Johnny’s designs will save his company. Most of the film is devoted to a marathon race, pitting Johnny against his friendly enemy Don Taylor. Johnny Dark is a must for racing buffs, as well as a prime example of Tony Curtis in his beefcake period.

The Three Mesquiteers was the umbrella title for a series of fifty-one B-westerns released between 1936 and 1943. The films featured the characters Stony Brooke, Tucson Smith and Lullaby Joslin or Rusty Joslin as the threesome; played by many B-western stars of that era. In 1938, John Wayne took over for Robert Livingston as Stony Brooke and starred in eight Mesquiteers films between 1938 and 1939, he was joined by Ray Corrigan as Tucson Smith and Max Terhune as Lullaby Joslin for the first six and Raymond Hatton as Rusty Joslin for the last two… all eight films were directed by George Sherman (Big Jake). John Ford’s Stagecoach was perfectly sandwiched between the eight films and John Wayne portrayal of the outlaw gunfighter made him a superstar and ended Wayne’s Stony Brooke run… Livingston was rehired as Brooke and went on to make fourteen more Mesquiteers films and for an incredible total of twenty-nine. In Red River Range (the fourth of eight Wayne Mesquiteers films), The Cattlemen’s Association has called in the three amigos to find a gang of cattle rustlers, their friend Tex Riley (Kirby Grant) poses as Stony, so the real stony can go undercover as an outlaw to infiltrate the gang. Featuring Polly Moran and Lorna Gray.

The state intends to compensate the land-owners fairly, but a crooked real-estate promoter complicates things. The ranchers, led by Stony Brooke (‘John Wayne’ (q)), Tucson Smith (‘Ray Corrigan’) and Rusty Joslin (Raymond Hatton) fight back against both the law and the crooks.

The Sleeping City is a gritty, claustrophobic thriller set in a metropolitan hospital. Its jarring opening has a burned-out intern, out on a smoke break, shot point-blank in the face. Film noir fixture Richard Conte heads the “Confidential Squad” that goes undercover to investigate. Coleen Gray is the attractive head nurse with whom Conte becomes involved — and who may be mixed-up in some major medical skulduggery. The film was shot on location at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital; a prologue, added at the insistence of New York’s mayor, asserts that the film is fictional and doesn’t represent any real city or hospital. B-movie vet George Sherman (who made many a B-Western with John Wayne) directs. The tight script is by Jo Eisinger; who also wrote Jules Dassin’s Night and the City. “An especially disturbing film noir, because its plot concerns corruption within a hospital . . . The interns and nurses are shown as depressed and neurotic individuals, bitter and desperate people, [not] the noble crusaders usually associated with medical stories”

Synopsis:
