Adaptation by Martin A. Hansen widely read diary novel about Johannes Vig, the middle-aged schoolteacher on the isle Sandoe.
He is in love with his former pupil, grocer’s daughter Ann-mari, whose fiancee works at the mainland, as the ice has prevented Sandoe from.
While Johannes hesitates, chooses Annemari instead a young engineer who represents all the modern ideas offering schoolteacher against. Johannes, by contrast, started a relationship with Rigmor, who is married to his friend, farm owner Frederik.

Knud Leif Thomsen alleged, that he had made the protagonist more crazy and exciting and gave less than in Martin A. Hansen. The plot, the book takes place right after the occupation, has led to the present. Issues around funding got the actors to shoot their salaries in the production. The peninsula Lovns in Limfjorden made it out of the fictional Sandoe. Other filming was done mostly in Vendsyssel, for example, were used Mosbjerg church, the lighthouse at Hirtshals and the old village school in Sdr. Bindslev, whose students also starred in the film. The film received some positive reviews, which pointed out the beautiful pictures, the delicate drawing environment, and good acting in many supporting roles. Most reviews, however, was very negative. It was believed at all, the book’s spirit was understood. The film was not interested in the protagonist’s development, but left only Johannes Vig be the voice of the instructor’s negative attitude towards the modern society. Despite the criticism the film received, however a large audience.

A woman, Ilse Brehmer, finds the body of a dead man, a journalist. He has been murdered, and later when the body turns up in the harbor, the woman denies everything, even though witnesses has seen her nearby the crime scene. She simply can’t remember anything, but the detective on the case, Mørck, knows how to smell a lie and soon start to unravel this bloody mess.

Kaspar Rostrup – Dansen med Regitze AKA Memories of a Marriage (1989)

Memories of a Marriage (based on Martha Christensen’s best-selling novel, Dansen med Regitze) is a wonderful, moving and superbly acted film featuring what may be the greatest on-screen performance by the luminous Ghita Nørby, one of Denmark’s finest actresses (and a lovely person–I met her once in Seattle). The film traces the relationship between Regitze and her husband, Karl-Aage; in the present, Regitze has received devastating news about her health. Thus, much of the film is a flashback to the ups and downs of their marriage, which began when they first met under the Occupation in World War II. Regitze is a strong-willed young woman, whereas Karl-Aage seems more weak and pliable. Still, they love each other and complement. The film film slowly discloses Regitze’s carpe-diem approach to life, her own very life force. This is a not a visually stunning film (though there are some lovely touches); it is first and foremost a character study. Forget Nørby’s performance (albeit powerful) in the tedious _Hamsun_ and try to get a copy of this haunting film. I showed it to a class once, and most were in tears at the end–yet, in classic Scandinavian fashion, there wasn’t one emotionally cheap or maudlin scene in the film.
