Just out of jail, Fai finds a spot on a street corner where other homeless people welcome him. But he doesn’t get much time to settle in. The police soon chase them away, and their possessions disappear into a garbage truck. Young social worker Ms Ho thinks it’s time to fight this in court. In the meantime, Fai and his friends have other concerns.

Summary:
You’ll probably laugh, but you might not have gotten the object of satire by reading the subtitles, which is why I have provided this summary. I’m pretty sure Wong Jing was involved in this — in fact one of the characters is Wong Jing as a young man. If you are a die hard Wong Kar Wai fan, you will laugh when you watch this film.

“Those Were the Days” speculates on what would happen if a hot international art house director (a.k.a. WKW) were transported back in time to the 1960s Hong Kong film industry. Surprising drama about two nobodies who find an unlikely romance despite the imminent collapse of their respective worlds. Francis Ng is Jordan, a low level triad who finds himself strangely attracted to divorced restaurant hostess Juliet (Sandra Ng), who’s had a mastectomy and has since retreated into a shell. Through coincidence, the two form a makeshift family with the child of a triad boss (Simon Yam) who’s after Jordan for some dough.
Though that sounds like a typical HK concept-plot, the truth is anything but. This is a near-plotless drama that’s unbearably slow yet riveting in its opacity and depth of emotion. This is a rare HK film in that it does nothing to help the viewer understand—you’re forced to understand volumes through the exquisite acting of the two leads and the low-key direction of director Wilson Yip. He handles the story with an uncommon style and sensitivity which can either draw a viewer in—or possibly turn them off.
This is not a film for undemanding audiences, as it does very little to actually manipulate you. Yip lets you decide whether or not you like the characters—he just presents the situations. This is a difficult film but it’s also a rare gem in its uncompromising storytelling.

John Woo protégé Wai Ka-fai follows up on his acclaimed Chow Yun-Fat vehicle Peace Hotel with this wild and woolly black comedy. With a nod to both Tarantino and Kieslowski, Wai fashions an inventive narrative based around ideas of fate and accident.

The film follows Wong Ah-kau (Lau Ching-Wan), an inept gangland foot soldier with no self-esteem, no money, and no clue. One day, a friend of his offers him a stack of cash to deliver some cars to Mainland China for a big crime boss. It seems like easy money. Around the same time, he gets another offer to go to Taiwan and do a mob hit for an even bigger sum of dough. Due to some narrative trickery, both options are explored.

Over the years, this film has become something of a cult classic for mavens of Hong Kong cinema.

Synopsis:

This five-man-squad is led by Curtis (Anthony Wong) who is working as a barber on the side. His men are Roy (Francis Ng), who owns a bar, the weapon expert James (Suet Lam), Mike (Roy Cheung), who is an excellent marksman, and rookie Shin (Jackie Liu). The relationships between the five men are always grounded on their professionalism, even though there is some friction every now and then, and their inviolable code is the reason why they are very successful in their field. But the bodyguards’ code of honor as well as their sense for brotherhood are put to a harsh test at the end.
