Plot: Philippe, a student, is sent to jail for manhandling his father’s business partner, who blackmailed the poor man and caused his death. He shares his cell with two mates: easily offended Théo Giulani and jovial Bob Daniels, with whom he soon establishes a bond of friendship. Still obsessed by the idea of avenging his father, Philippe enters into a pact with the two men: they will break into the partner’s office, force open his safe and seize the document exposing the criminal. As a reward, Théo and Bob will get away with the money and the diamonds there. But the police is in the know…

After witnessing and accidentally helping several thugs get away with a heist, the women notice through their telescope that the stolen loot is in the apartment right across the street! They plan their own burglary of the already stolen loot in this lighthearted caper comedy with a bit of nudity! Serge Gainsbourg did the bouncy score.

Quatre joyeuses jeunes filles, Frédérique, Christine, Martine et Bernadette assistent à Nice au cambriolage de la Caisse d’Epargne. Le soir, elles fêtent l’anniversaire de Martine; son fiancé, un officier de marine très conventionnel, installe une longue vue sur le balcon. Ce cadeau va, croit-il, permettre à la jeune fille d’assister à son départ en mer. Mais les jeunes filles regardent les nouveaux voisins d’en face, qui ont des physionomies, à leur avis, très antipathiques. Les deux hommes manipulent des quantités de billets si impressionnantes que les filles croient avoir découvert les voleurs de la Caisse d’Epargne. Bernadette a tôt fait de prendre conseil auprès de son père, détenu à la prison, pour organiser le cambriolage des “voleurs”…

Clouzot’s final foray into features takes us into another tortured love triangle to explore voyeurism and, by extension, the very gaze that so draws us to cinema. Josée (Elisabeth Wiener) meets her artist-lover’s gallerist, the chic but kinky Stanislas Hessler (Laurent Terzieff), whose hobby is photographing female nudes in S&M postures. Naturally, Josée succumbs to the temptation to pose, but finds she needs bonding not bondage. Enter the obsessive kinetic artist Gilbert (Bernard Fresson), and the triangulated trap is sprung. Like Peeping Tom, Woman in Chains uses the camera’s gaze as a substitute for our own voyeuristic impulse.
