From Xploited Cinema:
Fabio Testi stars as Floyd, a criminal who on the very day of his parole participates in a jewelry store robbery in downtown Toronto. Of course, the robbery takes a turn for the worse as Testi’s accomplice, Joe (played by Eli Wallach) starts shooting up the place and kills a young man. After a lengthy car chase (a standard in Lucidi’s films), Testi and Wallach split up to meet again across the border.Wallach entrusts Testi with the diamonds and his really nice German car, which Testi wrecks somewhere in the Canadian countryside. Testi finds his way to the Last Chance Motel right out in the middle of nowhere, run by none else than Massimo Girotti and his intoxicating wife Ursula Andress.

During his uncomfortable stay there, Testi hires the local idiot (Howard Ross) to repair his car while he develops an affair with Ms. Andress. Somewhere along the line, someone steals the diamonds. Matters are complicated even more when Wallach shows up, furious about the loot (and probably his car too) and starts shooting people.

The Adventures of Gerard (1970)
The Adventures of Gerard (1970)

Based on satirical short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle about a vain, egotistical Etienne Gerard, a French brigadier serving during the Napoleonic Wars. He thinks he’s the best soldier and lover that ever lived and intends to prove it.

Quote:
Peter McEnery stars as Col. Etienne Girard, Hussar officer of the Napoleonic era. The story takes place during the Little Corporal’s 1808 campaign in the Spanish peninsula. Col. Gerard’s adventures include an ongoing war of nerves against Napoleon’s forces, not to mention a steamy affair with one Countess Teresa Claudia Cardinale. “Nappy” himself is played by Eli Wallach, who certainly has the right temperament for the role, even though he’s much too tall to be thoroughly convincing. Filmed in Spain, The Adventures of Gerard is based on characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Quote:
A child bride holds her husband at bay while flirting with a sexy Italian farmer.

When the film was released in 1956, it was enormously controversial for its extremely risqué subject matter. The Catholic Legion of Decency condemned the film for its “carnal suggestiveness”. Cardinal Francis J. Spellman condemned the film in a stunning attack from the pulpit of St. Patrick’s Cathedral two days before the film opened. He said that the film had been “responsibly judged to be evil in concept” and would “exert an immoral and corrupting influence on those who see it”. He exhorted all Catholics to refrain from patronizing the film “under pain of sin”. Cardinal Spellman’s condemnation of the film led to the Legion of Decency’s first-ever nationwide boycott of an American-made major studio film. All over the country, almost 20 million Catholics protested the film and picketed theaters that showed it. The Catholic boycott nearly killed the film; it was can-celled by 77% of theaters scheduled to show it, and made a meager $600,000 at the box office. The film was also condemned by Time Magazine, which called it the dirtiest American-made motion picture that had ever been legally exhibited. Surprisingly, despite the film’s sordid elements, the Production Code Administration gave it a seal of approval, but only after nearly a year of arguments. This was one of many examples of how the lax attitude of new Code official Geoffrey Shurlock, the successor at the PCA to the strict Catholic militant Joseph I. Breen, would lead to a schism with the Legion of Decency, and to the PCA’s own downfall over the next few years. After this film, the PCA drifted farther and farther away from its traditional guidelines until it was replaced by the MPAA ratings system in 1968.

Aspiring photographer Susan Weinblatt (Melanie Mayron) and would-be poet Anne Munroe (Anita Skinner) are best friends and roommates in a fivie-flight walk-up on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. But one day Anne decides to marry and move out. When the best friends go their separate ways, Girlfriends focuses on what happens to the one left behind. It’s about valuable, delicate, and complex ties that bind people–girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, and lovers. Producer/director Claudia Weill captures the offbeat charm and edgy moments of city life, as well as a gem of a performance by Mayron in her first starring role.

Based on the short story “Venus Rising” by George Bradshaw, How to Steal a Million features a rather contrived plot about a wealthy art forger (Academy Award winner Hugh Griffith, Ben Hur) and his beautiful daughter (Hepburn) who are about to be exposed as frauds after they allow one of their fake statues to be displayed in a major art exhibition. In a desperate attempt to save face, Hepburn solicits help from a dashing society burglar (Peter O’Toole, Lawrence of Arabia) to steal the statue before tests can be made to reveal its true origin. The “burglar” isn’t exactly what he appears to be, however, and as they plot their haphazard heist, the two inevitably begin to fall in love.

Audrey Hepburn stars as Nicole Bonnet, the daughter of a very successful art forger named Charles Bonnet (played by Hugh Griffith). His latest project is a replica of a famed statue, which he knows would be scrutinized and inspected if he were to sell it – so he chooses instead to donate the piece to a museum. But when the museum announces that they’re bringing in a specialist to examine the statue, Charles is sure he’ll be found out. Nicole decides that the only way to avoid the situation is to steal the statue back, and enlists the help of suave, self-described “society burglar” Simon Dermott (O’Toole). The two begin plotting the heist and, of course, find themselves falling for each other along the way.

Another comment from IMDb: A charming adventure comedy. It revolves around good-hearted art forgery and the need to set thing right. The basic plot is rather implausible, but it hardly matters. There is a great chemistry between the primary characters and the story is pleasantly devoid of attributes that would prevent the film from being enjoyed by anybody from 10 years-old and up. The blend of mild suspense, gentle comedy and a bit of romance is not too intellectually provocative, but it makes for great fun. It’s a film I can sit down an watch with my teenage daughter, my younger son, my wife and my mother, and everybody has a good time and comes away feeling better than when they sat down.

This film illustrates scores of Brown’s compelling posters, interwoven with clips from these B-Movie classics.

Narrated by Eli Wallach, this fascinating and entertaining documentary celebrates the work of Reynold Brown, one of the most acclaimed movie poster artists of the Fifties and early Sixties, whose work colorfully encapsulated the nation’s postwar social climate. The video illustrates scores of Brown’s compelling posters – often interwoven with ‘Coming Attractions’ previews – for films such as “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman,” “This Island Earth,” “I Was a Teenage Werewolf,” “Tarantula,”The Creature from the Black Lagoon” and “Monster on the Campus.” Art critics, curators and authors as well as B-movie producers Roger Corman and Samuel Z. Arkoff discuss Brown’s work in an art historical and social context, discussing the artistry of posters often more memorable than the films themselves.

The hero of Instructions for a Light and Sound Machine is easy to identify. Walking down the street unknowingly, he suddenly realizes that he is not only subject to the gruesome moods of several spectators but also at the mercy of the filmmaker. He defends himself heroically, but is condemned to the gallows, where he dies a filmic death through a tearing of the film itself.
Our hero then descends into Hades, the realm of shades. Here, in the underground of cinematography, he encounters innumerable printing instructions, the means whereby the existence of every filmic image is made possible. In other words, our hero encounters the conditions of his own possibility, the conditions of his very existence as a filmic shade.
Instructions for a Light and Sound Machine is an attempt to transform a Roman Western into a Greek tragedy.
