From imdb:
7 a.m. Catherine receives a phone call from someone called Kirsch. This untimely call throws her into a great state of agitation, which she takes out on her boyfriend, Raphaël. Upset, in turn, Raphaël fights with his employer and even succeeds in getting himself fired. To excuse himself for his early morning call, Kirsch decides to send Catherine a bouquet of flowers, which, in Catherine’s absence, winds up with her neighbors Alice and Antoine. The bouquet will go from hand to hand, setting off all manner of mistakes, misunderstanding and misinterpretations. The bouquet is the catalyst of a multitude of insignificant events, which reveal the whimsy of our lives today.

Another review:
C’est le bouquet! (2002) (Special Delivery) is a French film co-written and directed by Jeanne Labrune. I saw this film, along with with Labrune’s “Tomorrow is Another Day,” at the 2005 Cinefranco Film Festival in Toronto. (www.cinefranco.com)

Sandrine Kiberlain plays Catherine, a happily married woman who is awakened at 7:00 AM by a telephone call from a former lover. Her husband, Raphaël, (played by Jean-Pierre Darroussin) is naturally curious about this call and the caller. However, Raphaël has his own problems at work, where he’s being aided by his loyal co-worker, who also wouldn’t mind going to bed with him. Characters meet by chance, a bouquet of flowers is passed from apartment to apartment, and people come together and almost come together.

As in “Tomorrow is Another Day,” the film is worth seeing for the glimpse it gives of one segment of Parisian society. It’s certainly a distorted glimpse, but it’s not a boring one.

Disheartened after a shocking event that took place in his firm, a compliant and committed employee loses the ground under his feet and revolts.

Quote:
“Sauf le respect que je vous dois” starts like one of those recent socially-committed French movies ( such as “Ressources humaines”, “Marie-Line”, “Violence des échanges en milieu tempéré”, “Le couperet” …) that courageously examine the deterioration of today’s working conditions and industrial relations.

Indeed, in a firm named DSBO and located in the West of France (but exemplifying a lot of others worldwide), you have no other choice but work hard, all too often after office hours, give up holidays, neglect your family or else …

One of the employees, Simon Lacaze(Jean-Michel Portal), a reluctant, hypersensitive young man, bridles up, fighting desperately for a minimum of free time to be spent with his wife and friends, among whom François Durrieux (Olivier Gourmet). To no avail, as he ends up being fired by his boss (deceptively pleasant Jean-Marie Winling). And ignominiously so… Simon chooses to commit suicide in his office the very night a party is being given by his self-satisfied employer.

At this stage of the story, director Fabienne Godet and co-writer Franck Vassal could opt for a militant, feel good tone, having the characters gradually become aware of the situation they are in, go on strike to protest against the unfair treatment they are given and win their case. But the authors are not the optimistic kind and although they do believe that unity makes strength they know that unity is not easily achieved. Instead, they choose to describe François’ righteous but lonely rebellion against the system. Too tortured, too awkward, too violent to involve his colleagues in an organized movement, he starts drifting alone, going round in circles, on a winding road leading nowhere.

The tone is bitter, mirroring the current situation in many a company today, not indulging in false hopes. Godet, whose first feature film this is, proves an able director. A first-rate cast helps: Gourmet, Blanc, Portal, Cotillard, Depardieu and young Jeffrey Barbeau give intense performances and make the film genuinely poignant and never goody-goody. A no-nonsense work that deserves to be seen.

In Search of Lost Time or Remembrance of Things Past is a novel in seven volumes by Marcel Proust. His most prominent work, it is known both for its length and its theme of involuntary memory, the most famous example being the episode of the madeleine. Running to nearly 1.5 million words, it is one of the longest novels in world literature. The novel began to take shape in 1909. Proust continued to work on it until his final illness in the autumn of 1922 forced him to break off. Proust established the structure early on, but even after volumes were initially finished he kept adding new material, and edited one volume after another for publication. The last three of the seven volumes contain oversights and fragmentary or unpolished passages as they existed in draft form at the death of the author; the publication of these parts was overseen by his brother Robert. The work was published in France between 1913 and 1927. The novel had great influence on twentieth-century literature; some writers have sought to emulate it, others to parody it.

Trying to film Marcel Proust’s `A la recherche du temps perdu’ has tied many a great director in knots. What is it about this masterpiece that resists adaptation? In theory, anybody can now make a movie of A la recherche du temps perdu. (The rights to the book fell into the public domain more than a decade ago) Most other major 20th- century novels have been cannibalised by the movies. We’ve had versions of Ulysses, Death in Venice and any number of Henry James adaptations, but for some reason, Proust has scared away filmmakers. His novel is still routinely dismissed as “unfilmable”, a strange verdict given how cinematic Proust’s language often seems. With its madeleine cakes and chiming bells, the book provides endless opportunities for Rosebud-style flashbacks. It also has plenty to titillate. There is voyeurism, lesbianism, homosexuality, family plotting, political intrigue and scandal, and all the glamour of the Faubourg St-Germain. When it comes to investigating high society and exposing its blatant snobbery, Proust is both satirist and detective. If not a movie, Proust’s 3,000- page opus ought at least to provide plenty of grist for the mini-series.
