Canada’s answer to ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, SIEGE posits what might have happened during the real-life Halifax police strike of 1981. It’s small in scale and ambition, but benefits from that economy and does an admirable job building suspense. Working with C$250,000 and a shooting ratio of only 3:1, the directors manage to get both effective performances and sufficient coverage for the scenario to work quite well, making SIEGE one of the best Canadian B-movies of its time.
