After years of unavailability, the three surviving episodes from the legendary BBC horror anthology series Dead of Night, finally come to DVD. Originally screened on BBC2 in 1972, and rarely seen since, Dead of Night has been highly sought by fans of the BBC and British horror for decades.

S01E01: THE EXORCISM
The best known and perhaps the most terrifying of the episodes – four wealthy, middle-class friends (Clive Swift, Edward Petherbridge, Anna Cropper and Sylvia Kay) gather for a Christmas dinner in a country cottage only to find that the past will not rest while they feast.

S01E02: RETURN FLIGHT
In Return Flight, the professionalism of an experienced and respected airline pilot (Peter Barkworth) is placed under scrutiny when he encounters the ghostly apparition of a Second World War Lancaster bomber.

S01E07: A WOMAN SOBBING
A middle-class housewife (Anna Massey) becomes increasingly paranoid when her nights are interrupted by the terrifying and unexplained sound of a woman crying in one of the rooms in her new house.

Tom and Elizabeth Carter inhabit the cultural desert of 1970s English suburbia. Their marriage seems empty of passion but one of Tom’s passions persists: his boyhood passion for model railways, which they attempt to discuss over breakfast. Elizabeth consistently mocks Tom’s enthusiasm for his hobby. “You’re so hot and passionate at the breakfast table, Tom.” Tom sets off to work and, shortly after his departure, Elizabeth takes a phone call from a neighbour who warns her that she’s spotted a strange man watching Elizabeth’s house. Elizabeth checks and, as she goes to ring her neighbour back, or maybe the police, so the doorbell rings and there is Glen, a young man in his twenties. “I’ve come a long, long way to see you…and to track you down, Elizabeth Alice Dale,” says Glen. “For God’s sake, who are you?” demands Elizabeth. “Your baby boy, momma dear,” is Glen’s reply…
