The film, with a similar plot to High Noon, tells the story of Dan Ballard (John Payne) and Rose Evans (Lizabeth Scott), who are about to be married on the Fourth of July when Marshal Fred McCarty (Dan Duryea) and his deputies ride into town looking for Ballard. McCarty accuses Ballard of having murdered his brother and has come to arrest him.
At first, the townspeople are on Ballard’s side, but gradually they turn against him, especially when they believe that he has killed the town sheriff (Emile Meyer). Ballard tries to prove his innocence and expose McCarty (who appears to be a veiled reference to Senator Joseph McCarthy).

Synopsis
In a fictionalized biography, Oklahoma outlaw Belle Starr (Jane Russell) meets the Dalton gang when rescued from lynching by Bob Dalton (Scott Brady), who falls for her. Bandleader Kay Kyser takes his troupe of nutty musicians, goofball comics and pretty girl singers on a tour around the world to entertain the troops during World War II.

Not a great movie but a delight. So many movies were made to lighten the mood of wartime, many of which we know and many of which were forgotten. This is a joy – the music is terrific, the plot so thin it’s transparent. The pretext is that Kyser’s band and singers are traveling from one base to another to entertain the troops. (Kyser married the lead singer after this show and she quit her singing career.) The musicians and singers are talented, and Kyser pulls off the kind of broad humor that Bob Hope made famous on USO tours. Joan Davis is a comedic genius – very physical, as extreme as Lucille Ball or Imogene Coca, but pretty enough to hold her own with the feminine stars. Interesting that she chose the clownish route. Synopsis:

Review:
“The River’s Edge” is a strange but entertaining movie thanks to its strange mix of styles. On one hand it has an element of film noir about it with a love triangle enriched by the motives of the individuals but then it also has a western aspect as this love triangle takes us on a journey across country as the three characters head for the border. It sounds like it shouldn’t work, a western noir but there is something strangely captivating about it making us not so much interested in what is happening but wanting to know the outcome. Basically it is a movie which draws us in and whilst at times struggles to keep our interest through action and scenery it keeps us there because we want to know who ends up with who and who will die.

Margaret (Debra Paget – Love Me Tender) is struggling to come to terms with life on her husband Ben’s (Anthony Quinn – The Black Swan) ranch and it is getting too much for her to bare. But when her ex Nardo (Ray Milland – Love Story) shows up wanting Ben to help him across the border it becomes much more complicated as she ends up torn between the two men. On top of this Nardo has a case of stolen money and money does strange things to all three of them as they make their way through the wilderness, away from the border patrol.

Six-year-old Jenny rescues a collie dog, the only survivor of a plane wreck. A tag on the dog’s neck states that it is en route to a medical laboratory where its blood will be used for spotted fever vaccine. Dr. Steven Webster meets both Jenny and the dog and “adopts” them both. His fiancée Susan isn’t too fond of either the girl or the dog. Webster wants to get a hospital for the town but he is suppressed by the town mayor. In the arguments that follow, Webster’s lab is wrecked and ticks infected with spotted fever escape.
