Synopsis:
Sardonic detective Shane, thrown out of one town for bringing trouble, heads for home and his ex-partner’s detective agency. The business is in a sad way, and Shane, who has had the forethought to provide himself with a 250-dollar commission from an old lady on the train, is welcomed with open arms. When pretty Valerie Purvis walks in the next day willing to pay over the odds to put a tail on the man who did her wrong, Shane’s way with the ladies looks like paying off yet again. But things start to go wrong when his partner is murdered, and Shane himself comes home to find his apartment wrecked by a gentlemanly crook who comes back to apologise — and to tell him a fascinating fairy-story about the fabled Horn of Roland that looks like not being so mythical after all. Miss Purvis wants protection. The police want answers. And all sorts of people want the ‘French horn’… but Shane is one jump ahead of everyone all the way. Well, almost.

Synopsis:

Plot Synopsis:
No boring historical pageant this, Warner Bros.’ Madame DuBarry is a fast-paced, often hilarious romantic romp. Her Mexican accent held in check, the ravishingly beautiful Dolores Del Rio plays 18th-century French courtesan DuBarry like a 20th-century golddigger on the make. Brought to Versailles as the companion of courtier D’Aigullon (Victor Jory), former street waif DuBarry charms her way into the heart — and boudoir — of gouty King Louis XV (Reginald Owen). Many of the famous incidents in her character’s life are given showcase treatment: When DuBarry’s enemies steal her gown, she appears at her presentation at Versailles in a flimsy nightgown; and when she wants to take a sleighride in the middle of summer, King Louis “nationalizes” all the sugar in Paris as a substitute for snow. Upon Louis’ death, the petulant new Queen Marie Antoinette (Anita Louise) banishes DuBarry from court, which our heroine takes in her usual stride, insouciantly chanting the roundelay “The King of France” as she walks out of the palace, with her head held high (and still — at this point anyway — firmly planted on her shoulders). ~ Hal Erickson

Omar Khayyam was one of the greatest Persian poets. He was also a brilliant mathematician. Though his quatrains were written in the 11th century, they are still popular the world over. The details of his life are unknown, so this movie invents a biography for him and includes in it his real achievements – the invention of a new calendar and the penning of those epigrammatic poems. This film has him romancing a sultan’s bride and foiling the assassin sect’s plot to kill the sultan’s son.
