Radek Simek, the driver of a postal car, is shot dead on his regular route. The Investigators give up initial suspicions of robbery, because he carried no greater amount of money. Even questioning Honza Marek, another mail car driver, brings no result. When the circumstances are becoming more and more suspicious. Marek decides to track down the killer on his own.

In 1972, director Václav Vorlíček created one of the most overlooked items from his filmography – this crime drama, based on a screenplay by translator Jaroslav Kořán. Following a series of fantastical comedies, including “Pane, vy jste vdova!” (You Are a Widow, Sir, 1970) and Dívka na Koštěti (The Girl on the Broomstick, 1971), in Smrt si vybírá (Death Chooses, 1972) Vorliček focuses on gradually revealing the secret life of a postal driver. Radek Šimek has been shot, and colleague Honza Marek tries to solve the case by himself. The trail leads all the way to the members of the band Flamingo, primarily to beautiful singer Klára. Václav Postránecký plays the role of the amateur detective in this simple tale. Jana Šulcová stars as Klára (her singing parts are dubbed by the real singer of the actual Flamingo band, Marie Rottrová).

Synopsis:
The invincible agent Cyril Juan Borguette alias W4C (Jan Kacer) has been assigned a mission to go to a hotel in Prague, get hold of a saltcellar with a plan for the military exploitation of Venus hidden in it, and hand it over to the beautiful agent Alice (Kveta Fialová). He will have to compete for the saltcellar with other agents working for the world’s various greater and smaller powers. The head of the Prague counter-intelligence unit gets news of agent W4C’s mission. Deficient in personnel, he nominates accountant Foustka (Jirí Sovák) as agent 13B. Mr Foustka takes his dog Pajda with him and the two head for the airport. Pajda helps him track down agent W4C in a classy hotel that becomes the battleground for the interests and plans of the secret agents from different countries, each trying to get hold of the precious saltcellar.

Synopsis:
There are still water spirits among us. One group lives in Prague, led by Mr. Wassermann, who is using his wife’s family as a servants. All they need is their old house near the river. But the house is to be demolished. They have to stop it. And the only way is to drown Dr. Mrácek, who is responsible for the demolition. But he falls in love with Wassermann’s niece Jana. He changes to fish, is mistaked for water spirit from Germany, is drowned and revived again. The other problem is the flour with ears… and so on…

Review:
Pretty much as good as it gets! All sorts of bizarre shenanigans revolving around people who live underwater and live to drown people. All sorts of great, clever effects. I’m not so sure what to even say to recommend it because I feel like so much of the beauty was having all of the great twists sprung on you. I can say this though, pretty easily; absolutely great comedy, I laughed the whole way through. Typically rockin’ 1970’s opening song.
