The building of a railroad under tough conditions from searing heat to freezing cold in the Sonora desert provokes clashes of passion and struggles between the engineers and the workers at the campsite. The workers also contend with sudden dust storms that are called the ‘black wind’.

The film explores the dangerous adventures of its hero, a rough figure-of-circumstance trapped by conflicting devotion to his son and his own ambitions, and the hazards of the construction work. A cataclysmic sandstorm splendidly filmed and a spectacular rail crash provide memorable set-pieces in a gradual build-up of tension.This is an exceptional film by the director of Yanco, enhanced by its realistic background. The characters struggle towards an ideal from which happiness seems attainable, but it remains hopelessly remote. Such a tale depends on its central figure and the distinguished actor, David Reynoso, succeeds in giving the foreman, Manuel, something of the epic qualities of a modern Job.

Synopsis: A woman who is about to die calls the town’s priest and hands him a scapulary, saying that she knows of its great powers. Anybody who does not believe in them will end up dead.

In the times of Mexican Revolution, a dying woman sends for the young priest of the village, she confesses to him that she has a miraculous scapular which has the power to protect the life of the owner; before she dies, she tells the skeptical priest how the scapular saved the life of her four children, thus reviving four incredible crossed stories.

The movie gives the date: November 7, 1910, a mere two weeks before the Mexican Revolution. Yet, in the flashbacks, seven years earlier, we can see a full fledged organized insurgency.
