To be more precise, we’re introduced to one particular Sound System.

Meet Coxsone Sound: The UK’s Number One in the Reggae Sound System business during the time of this interesting documentary. As the video opens, we meet them on their way to a Reggae dance in Birmingham where they’re about to play a show.

After that introduction, Mikey Dread continues to explain just what a Sound System is, and how there is a complete underground network of these sounds.

Yes, this is 1981 and so that is where today’s UK DUB and Sound system culture is coming from.

In that time, though, Coxsone Sound was already well established as we see in the video. The whole posse is interviewed as they explain just what it is they are doing, and of course we’ll see them live in action.

The major differences with -let’s say- “western” music are explained too. By none other than David Rodigan, himself a already an established Reggae Radio DJ back in 1981 already.

Interesting, informative, entertaining. And historical! Many people still look on that time frame (1975-1985) as the “golden age” of Reggae. And even though it’s really nonsense to look for Reggae’s success as a thing of the past only, it’s always good to see where everything is coming from.

This documentary therefore is highly and deeply recommended for every lover of Reggae Music and Culture.
