Business partners Storch and Søndergaard are in for a very confusing day. The birthday child Storch reminds Søndergaard that it is his wedding day, which prompts Søndergaard to immediately send flowers home to his wife. In response, Mrs Søndergaard sends a lunch invitation to her husband as well as a birthday card to Storch. The cards become mixed up with befuddling consequences for both couples.

Starring Ebbe Rode and Illona Wieselmann, the psychological drama revolves around the intense erotic relationship between a wealthy married woman suffering from amnesia and a paroled petty thief entangled with organized crime. Afsporet was Ipsen’s directorial debut and is considered the first true Danish film noir.

A professor’s daughter, comes from a rich home, gets amnesia in a very remarkable opening scene, with some eerie underscoring. She gets involved with some low-life people in a slum area. She falls in love with the tough guy (played by Ebbe Rode), who recently got out of prison. He continues his live based on crime, and she follows him. Ib Schønberg, who proved his first character playing talents in this movie, threatens to reveal everything. Also a remarkable score from the beginning of Sven Gyldmark’s career.

Café Paradis (English Title: Paradise Cafe) is an award-winning Danish film made in 1950, directed by Bodil Ipsen and Lau Lauritzen Jr., and written by Johannes Allen. The film received the Bodil Award for Film of the Year, and Ib Schønberg, for what is regarded his finest performance, received the Bodil Award for Best Supporting Actor.
The story illuminates the problems of alcoholism as it follows the lives of two people: one is a common workman (played by Poul Reichhardt) who drinks too much beer, and the other is a company director (played by Ib Schønberg), who believes he just needs “a little one every now and then.” They both come to face the consequences of their addictions.
