Camilo is a quiet man who works for a cleaning company in Montreal. He used to run a successful restaurant called Le Coyote, but he has been struggling to find work in the culinary field since his establishment went out of business. An old friend offers him a position as a chef in the suburbs. Just when it looks like life will cut him a break, his estranged daughter lands on his doorstep, announcing that she has a grandson, Zachary.

As a woman with a substance abuse problem she asks Camilo to look after Zachary while she is in rehab. Zachary is very worried about losing his mother, and Camilo is not comfortable looking after a kid he didn’t know existed, not to mention dealing with his daughter’s out-of-control problems. In its low-key but precise way, Jerkovic shows what goes into building a new family from the ashes of former ruins. This is a compassionate and emotionally genuine tale that benefits greatly from her naturalistic approach to story-telling.
