Comedian Tony Hancock stars, in this BBC situation comedy TV series, as Anthony Aloysius St John Hancock, a down-at-heel comedian living in East Cheam.

Episode 1:
THE BEDSITTER
(26th May, 1961)
Alone in his bedsitter one evening with nothing to do and nowhere to go and Hancock’s telephone rings…

Episode 2:
THE BOWMANS
(2nd June, 1961)
In a radio studio, they’re doing an episode of the rural melodrama “The Bowmans”(a play on “The Archers”). Cast member Tony ad libs and can’t keep in character. He’s going to get sacked, so he tries to make the most of his final programme.

Episode 3:
THE RADIO HAM
(9th June, 1961)
In Tony’s seedy flat, he has a massive ham radio set up, which he wiles away time with talking to improbable foreigners. But when an opportunity to be a hero arises from a distress signal, Tony’s not up to the challenge.

Episode 4:
THE LIFT
(16th June, 1961)
At BBC Television Centre, Tony and several others are trapped in a lift just as the workday is ending.For several hours he regales the his less than thrilled captive audience with mood-swinging tirades of philosophy and group singing.

Episode 5:
THE BLOOD DONOR
(23rd June, 1961)
Tony goes to donate blood, but typically, he turns it into an issue of status and class when he discovers he has a rare type. He bothers the hospital staff by insisting on updates as to who receives his elite blood.

Episode 6:
THE SUCCESSION: SON & HEIR
(30th June, 1961)
Our hero searches for a son and heir to carry on the Hancock name – but a son means marriage, and marriage involves finding a suitable bird…
