Ironically, Ivan Mosjoukine, a magnetic silent film star, fell into oblivion with the advent of talkies – his strong Russian accent prevented him from pursuing his career in France.
In contrast, Michel Simon, who has an uncredited role here as a guard, became one of the most popular actors of the inter-war period.
